Rewarding the wrong people.
Why does society reward the wrong people? Why does society reward those who have not done any good for human kind? Why does Kate Gosselin get so much publicity and money? The media. The media is to blame for glorifying someone who hasn’t contributed to society. Ms. Gosselin only had like a billion kids and was cheated on. What is so special about her? There are far more important things to worry and think about than to see Kate Gosselin…the mother of 8, prancing around on the dance floor.
Kate Gosselin was a nobody. Nada. No one. She had kids and got cheated on and now she’s writing books and was recently dancing on “Dancing with the Stars”. Star? What kind of star is she?! I was at Barnes and Noble this past weekend and saw her at her book signing. She carried herself as if she were too good for everyone. While watching her autograph books and seeing her give her fake smile, I felt like telling her out loud “Bitch! You had 8 kids and got cheated on! Who wants you?!”
The media needs to stop glorifying people who have done nothing… We need something new.
From Tiger to Cheetah…
Why are the mistresses of Tiger Woods all getting a spread in Vanity Fair?! Why?! What message are they sending to people? Have an affair and you will get a spread in a magazine? That is the problem with the media today. Not only in the United States, but everywhere else. The media glorifies people who have done nothing good for the world. Nothing at all. What these women did was have an affair with a married man and now they have become these wannabe celebrities who get to model for magazines and tell their story about the affair they had. People know enough. People don’t need to see them pose and don’t need the details of their affair. When will the world learn to stop glorifying people that have done terrible things? Cheating seems to be in style these days, and all we see on t.v. are men having affairs with many different women. Giving so much attention to these men makes the stereo type of men look almost as if it is true and makes women nowadays look like sluts. People and those who work for the media need to get a life and focus on other things. There are things taking place all around the world at this very moment that are far much more important.
Toyota targeting women?
Toyota has a new ad out on t.v. where a young woman is putting her in kids into her mini van and says that a lot of people think she is a hot babysitter when actually, those are her kids. Is this a way to target those naive women out there who don’t know better? With the recent recalls, sales have dropped greatly, and I believe Toyota is going after women who would think “recalls…huh? My car making me look hot?! Yes!” This isn’t the time for Toyota to be making ads where you have women claiming their car makes them hot. 1) Toyota needs to make ads that reassure drivers that their vehicles are safe and reliable or that the problem will be fixed. 2) Why is a car company using women that way? Being in this class has made me stop and think about how men and women are portrayed in the media today and it bothers me. People need to get their act together and find more creative ways to get people’s attention.
Red hot or not?
Before reading any further, please watch this commercial for Virgin Atlantic Airways.
While on YouTube a few days ago, I came across this ad for Virgin Atlantic Airways and was left confused. What message were they trying to send to the audience? Fly Virgin because our flight attendants are young and hot? Fly Virgin because our pilots are smooth Don Juans? Fly Virgin Atlantic Airways because most of our cabin crew consists of beautiful women? Don’t fly other airlines because their flight attendants are old and ugly? What confused me was the fact that flight attendants and pilots are nothing like that today, yet Virgin Atlantic Airways shows this ad with the message “Still Red Hot”. I think not. Most flight attendants today are much older than the typical flight attendants from many years ago and not only that, but the number of male flight attendants continues to grow and grow each year. When have you seen a pilot walking through an airport with 15 female flight attendants? Never. That just doesn’t happen anymore. If Virgin Atlantic would have made the commercial differently, maybe showing the cabin crew from 1984 and the cabin crew from 2010 which would consist of an even number of men and women, maybe they would have sent a much more positive, non-stereotypical message to the audience. Virgin Atlantic Airways definitely did not send a message of equality between men and women. Decide for yourself.
What has television come to?
In the 1950′s, many Americans sat down nightly in front of their television sets and watched Desi Arnaz come home to his wife Lucille Ball and say his famous line “Lucy, I’m home!”. I Love Lucy was a series that a mother, father, son and daughter could watch, laugh at, and not be negatively influenced in any way. Lucy Ricardo may have been portrayed as a naive clutz, but was never depicted as a whore or a reckless alcoholic.
What is viewed on American televisions today? Orange painted guidos who claim to be Italian yet can’t even say buongiorno and hair teasing bimbos kissing and sleeping with everyone they can. If all “guidos” just had a bit of intelligence, they would know that the actual definition of guido is “a sad pathetic excuse for a male”. It is a shame that this is what television has come to. Education in America is bad enough, so instead of watching Snookie and The Situation have fun in the hot tub, people need to start watching Animal Planet and do something productive.
What sparked my idea for writing about the pitiful television of today was a preview that I saw for a new reality series premiering in March on E! called “Pretty Wild”. A show of three sisters who run around like wild turkeys doing nothing useful for society. The oldest sister who is a wannabe model, the middle child who is a burglar and stalked Orlando Bloom and the youngest sister who is getting her drivers permit. Seriously?
I have always wanted a show all about myself and have always wondered how to get my show started. Now I know how. All I have to do is a get a cheap spray tan, plaster my head with gel, give myself a lame nick name, break into the homes of a few celebrities and stalk a popular star…maybe Robert Pattison?
It is sad that Women are being portrayed like that in television today and embarrassing to the male race that little boys who call themselves guidos, think that they are men. It is too bad that people have nothing better to do than to sit down and watch that crap.
